My Story
At the age of 11 I was winning short story competitions beating kids four years my senior writing about ghosts, UFO’s and the super-natural. With a passion for writing, as well as anything to do with ancient civilisations or “spookiness”, I was hell-bent on being either an archeologist, a “witch” or a psychic science-fiction author. (interestingly, today my passion is still the same).
At 12 I discovered the power of marketing and ran in a 7th grade election, winning by a landslide. I did that by giving my fellow 12 year old voters what was important to them at the time – cool stickers, posters, caps and badges I had secured from Government Departments.
At 13 I lobbied the Premier for a school oval for our new High School.
At the age of 17, with the lure of instant cash I got my first full-time job working in a Bank. Not enjoying the mechanical clerical work I instead focused on selling bank products and developing promotional ideas to drive more sales to the branch. I soon became a top regional performer in the area of promotions.
At the age of 21 I decided I wanted the thrill for adventure so I figured that being a Customs Officer would be exciting so I entered down that career path. While I was there, the copywriting and mail order bug kicked into overdrive and I spent my spare time studying the masters in mail order and copywriting.
A few years later, my passion and copywriting skill was discovered by the pioneers in small business marketing, Results Corporation, headed up by Australia’s answer to Jay Abraham and Gary Halbert, the legendary Chris Newton and Paul Dunn.
That’s when my ride of a life really began …
At the age of 25 I started Words that Sell, where I used my direct marketing and direct response copywriting skills to help leading-edge small business owners improve profits. I soon developed a reputation for being someone who gets results attracting some of the country’s most inspirational and forward-thinking entrepreneurs as clients.
By 26 I had started a mail order division producing and marketing (offline – before the days of the internet) a range of marketing how-to guides including “Proposals that Sell” and “How to Create a Sales Explosion With Every Ad and Letter You Write”.
I’ve shared the stage with some of this country’s direct marketing legends and I’ve educated over 28,000 people on marketing and copywriting.
In 1999 at the age of 31 when I was pregnant with my twin boys, the internet was just starting to kick off, and I was keen to spend as much time as I could with my children, so I decided to scale down my consulting business and ramp up the mail order division by taking it online so I could enjoy a leveraged income stream. I devoured every course and event I could and was soon earning a six figure income purely from selling information products and courses online.
At 36 I launched the College of Copywriting and Marketing which is now known as International Writers and Consultants Academy to help freelance writers and consultants run successful freelance businesses.
Over the years, I’ve had interests in many other businesses in the real estate industry, car service repairs, property investment industry. I’ve also dabbled in a range of successful and not-so-successful mail order ventures promoting anything from travel products to pet products to health products.
And today – I have a peaceful and inspiring lifestyle on the Sunshine Coast in an ocean view apartment at a resort, working exclusively with inspiring clients, continuing to indulge my entrepreneurial passions and passions for internet publishing, and enjoying life with my twin 10 year old boys.
I’m recognised as a street-savvy marketer, direct response copywriter and entrepreneur who gets results. And someone with an almost psychic ability to read a target market. I’m also known as a speaker, internet marketer, author and humanitarian. And a role mdoel to thousands of single mother entrepreneurs who are keen on work-life balance.
